Yes Campers, 2K is an exciting new “Keel-Boat” Team Racing Phenomena.. What is 2K Stavros? Well basically, it’s two boat team racing instead of three boats per team…
With Fleet racing (which is what most of us do), there is always a great deal of wasted time and very little for spectators to observe. In Match Racing, there is lots of excitement during the 4 minute pre-start and then maybe the first part of the race, but when one boat gets ahead, it’s usually all over bar the shouting……
However, in Two Boat Team Racing, the excitement never stops… Sailing over very short courses, close to the shore (to offer spectators every opportunity to view), and around 15 min races, the action is “Full On”. Basically, the last boat loses.. So If your team mate is in last position after the start (where the line is usually a maximum of 6 boat-lengths), your team will lose. UNLESS, you can hold up, or slow down one of the opposition boats, using all the team racing rules of sailing. The course can be a simple windward leeward, or a square course, where the short reaches can offer an excellent opportunity to “do battle” with the other team, 2K is simply the most perfect way to enhance your boat handling skills. Plus educating teams of the racing rules, as umpires follow every move……
