Yesterday was another most perfect sailing day here in Portugal. With the fleet now up to 20 boats and the wind blowing from the Northwest at around 10kts, this highly competitve warm up regatta was in “full swing”… The first race was won by RUS 34 helmed by Vasily Senatorov who made a nice gain on the left-hand-side of the second upwind leg, then held on to stay ahead of the fleet with a spinnaker finish. After a quick turn around the second race was started and the fleet split 50/50 right and left. SUI 307 helmed by Uli Libor made a nice gain as he led the group of boats who chose the left side of the course. By protecting his lead on the second beat Uli was able to hoist his spinnaker and relax on the final run to the finish…
In the final race RUS 27 helmed by Tommy Muller made an excellent start and was determined to show how well he can sail with a “decent crew”… 🙂 After already finishing second in race 1 and race 3, Tommy knew if he could hold onto first place he would be the overall leader on just 5pts (after discard) in this new Spring Cup event. That is exactly what he did and with RUS 27’s crew, Alexander Shalagin and Vadim Statsenko they hold a 3pt lead from RUS 34 Vasily Senatorov and GER 1036 Stephan Link on 8pts.
Today will see the conclusion of this warm up event with another 3 races. The forecast is for slightly stronger winds so with an 11.00am start, all sailors should be back in the superb Club Naval de Cascais drinking their well deserved beer’s by mid afternoon !
