Three Races today in Cascais with 6 to 9 kts of wind from 110 degrees for the 13 Dragons.
The Prince Henry the Navigator Trophy is up and running after 3 great races today in glorious sunshine in Cascais. After no wind yesterday the 13 boat fleet were keen for action today and they were not disappointed. In the first race of the day it was the experience of tactician Vincent Hoesch who helped guide GER 1140 “Smaug” to victory, mainly playing the right side of the beat.
Winner of Race 1 GER 1140 “Smaug” helmed by Nicola Frifesen, crewed by Oliver Mose & Vincie.
In Race 2 it was MON 2 “Jeanie” helmed by Jens Rathsack who took the win. Jens was crewed by Diogo Pereira and Taigo Marcelino who also played the right side of the first beat which paid due to slightly more pressure in the tricky conditions.
A Downwind battle in Race 3 eventually saw GER 1123 “Pow Wow” take the victory.
In the final race of the day, Race 3, It was GER 1123 “Pow Wow” helmed by Michael Zankel, crewed by Pedro Andrade & Phil Blinn, who preferred the left hand side of the course who took the win. Here you see them fighting hard with RUS 76 “Strange Little Girl”, but it was Michael Zankel who took the victory to now lead overall after three races.
GER 1140 leads the fleet with POR 66 in hot pursuit during today’s racing in Cascais.
In 2nd place overall is POR 66 “Drago” helmed by Jose’ Matoso, crewed by Gustavo Lima & Frederico Melo, whilst 3rd overall is RUS 76 Dmitry Samokhin, crewed by Andrey Kirilyuk and Alexsey Bushuev. These two experienced teams will be pushing the leaders hard tomorrow as there are still a possible three more races to be sailed, so everything to play for….
