I have just returned home from a very exciting weekend of racing in North Wales. Rob Riddell, the Dragon Fleet Captain of Abersoch has already motivated and cajoled many club sailors into our wonderful Dragon Class. So far they have 13 boats, all of which have been purchased for a maximum of £15,000. This weekend we had around 9 boats racing in the wonderful bay, bordered by the picturesque shores of the Pwllhelli and Abersoch peninsula. It is a fantastic area for Dragon racing, offering flat water (unless the wind is Easterly), a vast sailing arena, oscillating winds and a back drop of Snowdonia…. The club enjoys excellent views over the bay and I would recommend to you all that it is well worth a visit. So come and join the 38 boats already entered for the Edinburgh Cup 13th -16th July.
The local fleet has some very good sailors, with James Peters the man to beat. It won’t be long before others are in the running as many of the club’s top sailors from other classes are considering joining the fleet, whilst current dragon owners will soon be travelling to the South of France and other major regatta’s to enhance their own ability………. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Abersoch and look forward to a very competitive Edinburgh Cup….
