Lars Hendriksen UKR 8 completed back to back victories today by winning the Italian Open Championship by just 1pt from his fellow team mate Evgeniy Braslavets UKR 9. The final podium place was taken by Marcus Wieser, also part of the Transbunker team. Two weeks ago in Cannes Lars also won the first Grade 1 event of the year but in a different boat! Lars explain’s ” In Cannes we were sailing our Royal Dragon which worked perfectly. Just to test the difference we sailed our old 2006 Borresen here in San Remo. It seems that both boats are competitive to the fleet of Petticrows , however I feel that the Royal Dragon gives us an edge upwind in light airs, where as the Borresen has it’s advantage in windy/choppy conditions. San Remo was again a perfect Dragon Regatta with nice long races, really friendly treatment & then on-shore with pasta and red wine after the races”.
Pictured holding the San Remo Italian Championship Trophy is Igor Siderov and George Leonchuk, unfortunately Lars had to leave before the prize giving but he added ” Igor and George are now experienced Dragon crew who enjoy sailing together as a team, George spent his winter in a fitness gym and we were never short of muscle power! Our next event will be Douarnenez”…
The leading Italian Team who take the Italian National Title was ITA 56 Giuseppe Duca. There were a number of very good Italian teams out there this week and I’m sure with the fleet growing in Italy as fast as it is, Giuseppe will not have it so easy next year. Not only are more ITA sailors taking to the Dragon but more and more new events are popping up, one that I have promised to be at in August is on the Adriatic Sea, in Civitanova Marche.. All good news for the Dragon Class as we see more sailors taking up the altimate challenge!
In closing I would like to thank all the helpers and volunteers who worked so hard to make this 2012 Italian Championship so special, from the welcome on our arrival to the organised “apres” drinks and pasta, then an excellent craning out and washing the boats facility, well done to you kind energetic club members, we will all be back next year….

An early Double Win for Lars, as the wind disappears in San Remo….
