AUT 204 helmed by Christoph Skolaut, crewed by Martin Lutz (IDA Vice Chairman) and Wolfgang Riha won the German Nationals on Lake Chiemsee Oct 3rd to 6th in a fleet of 58 boats!

This remarkable win was special for two reasons, firstly AUT 204 are a Corinthian Team and secondly, they won the Championship not needing to sail the final race! Martin Lutz told me “At the Prize Giving for winner’s of Sailing day 3 Wolfgang jumped onto the bar and damaged his thumb.. So was not able to pull any ropes. So Georg Skolaut started driving at 5am from Vienna to help us out for races 7 & 8. As it turned out our 3rd place in race 7 meant we did not need to sail the final race”. Brilliant Martin Lutz, many congratulations to you and your top Corinthian Team.

AUT 204 round the top mark ahead of the pack on Lake Chiemsee, German Nationals.

2nd place overall in this very competitive fleet was GER 1207 Nicola Friesen, crewed by Michi Lip and Martin Westerdahl. This was a great performance by Nicola and her team finishing a clear 5 pts ahead of 3rd place GER 1221 helmed by Jan Woortman, crewed by Markus Koy & Casper Dohse. Very well done to all three podium teams, to finish ahead of such a strong field of sailors.

Winner’s take it All…  GER Nationals 1st place.

When you look at the calibre of sailors these three teams finished ahead of, you realise how pleased they must have been at Prize Giving.

4th GER 10 Vincent Hoesch, Peter Liebner, Harald Pessl.

5th GER 62 Stephan Link, Frank Butzmann, Inga Borkowski.

6th GER 1171 Dirk Neukirchen, Lars Hendriksen, George Leonchuk.

7th GER 1135 Philipp Ocker, Florian Grosser, Oliver Davies..   Corinthian.

8th GER 77 Ingo Ehrlicher, Malte Philipp, Thomas Aurcher.

Georg Skolaut the substitute crew said “I was only onboard on Sunday as Wolfi Riha’s replacement and I felt the boat was extremely fast. Christoph and Martin were very confident and produced an impressive series from AUT 204 which I have never seen before”

Then the final word from our IDA Vice Chairman and winning crew Martin Lutz who told me “I had no expectations at all as we decided last minute to attend. Our team was absolutely relaxed and this might have been the key to success. We tried a new mainsail which gave us more speed than we have ever had. Also perfect starts helped us to get quickly free to clear air and a good position at the top mark. The event was well organised with an excellent Race Officer. A full Dragon Hull (without Keel) was remodelled into a German Beer Bar! An ideal start to the evening with after race Beer’s”  :-)

Well done again Martin, so the big question everyone will want to know.  “What was the new mainsail?”

Higher, Faster, Longer……      Stavros.
