Hello again Campers…. Yes it’s me again your ever present Stavros keeping you up to date with the latest Dragon News and Regatta’s… Last week’s event in Cannes was probably the best sailing I have ever experienced during a Regates Royal in the 15 years I have been a Dragon Professional. We had 10 races over the 5 days, with sailing every day in a variety of “testing” conditions. From little wind to 26 + kts & from sunshine to torrential rain…! But everyone was smiling and happy to be part of this excellent regatta…
Yes this 34th “Panerai” Regates Royal had it all, under the expert guidence of the PRO Jerome Nutte, who immediately gained the respect of the 45 boat fleet, with sensible use of the “Black Flag” and excellent courses… and with sailing taking place in both the West and the Eastern Bay’s of Cannes and the majority of competitors berthed in the “Old Harbour” it was a fun filled week.
Back at the Yacht Club de Cannes the launching and recovery of all boats went remarkable well, considering the small space of this popular club. With members like Gerard Blanc, Francois Giraud and Malcolm Green working their socks off driving the club’s tractors to get us all to and fro the Palm Beach car/boat park whilst Jean Pierre Gails and the clubs Secretary’s sort out all the admin, it’s no wonder why this club is so successful. Well done and a big thank you to ALL the helpers and Volunteer’s who made this a most fantastic event…Lets hope as a result of this hard work, we will see a superb well supported winter programe & a full entry of 70 boats next year in 2013.
So now we look forward to either St Tropez or Torbole’ on Lake Garda…. I expect most of the French Fleet will be in St Tropez, whilst I aim to support Vincie’s unique and “full on” event in Italy.. This year over 50 boats will test their skills in Torbole’ on the fresh cool waters surrounded by magnificent mountain’s and sunny skies… Where else would you want to be…. ??
