Two fantastic days of sailing in Cannes have seen 36 Dragons competing in 15 to 20 kts of wind from the South, South West in glorious sunshine and deep blue sea’s. It has been an ideal way of blowing away the cobweb’s of the World’s to settle into some relaxed but competitive Dragon Sailing in a wonderful part of Europe. The Yacht Club de Cannes have made huge improvements to their small but impressive club by extending the surface area and laying more tarmac which transforms the facilities allowing more space. It is ready to accommodate many boats this winter for their busy sailing programme, which will see events both in Cannes and Italy..
Leading this competitive fleet is GER 1123 “Pow Wow” owned and helmed by Michael Zankel, and crewed by Philipp Blinn and Sefan Waack, who sailed a brilliant two races today recording a 1st and a 4th. Hard on their heels is my new “Bear” GBR 789, which Tim Tavinor kindly rushed through his busy production line to be ready for this traditional event in the South of France. I’m Crewed by Mark Dicker and John Wolfe who have put up with my “tantrums” and complaints for two whole days now…. Thank God the sun is out 🙂
So far we have had 4 races with three more days to go and a super forecast, tomorrow we have a day sailing sponsored by the Island of Maritius, with a Gala Dinner on the terrace of the Yacht Club de Cannes to follow and everyone wearing white, it should be quite a party…..
It is truly great to see our good friend and great sailor Frank (True Story) Berg back in “My Way” or “Get-a-Way” or is it “GET OUT OF MY WAY! 🙂 back on the water. Frank took some time out to deal with a health problem, but is now back to full speed on the water and with the Gin and Tonics! He is a close friend of mine who I would never have met if it was not for our unique Dragon Class that gives so much pleasure to so many people……..
