IMG_5633The “Wolfman” whistles to windward…..

Golden conditions prevailed today in the bay of Cascais where 40 teams put to sea in preparation for this most prestigious of keel boat championship. Several individual groups continued their tuning for the upcoming World Championship by participating in speed runs. Whilst 15 to 20 boats elected to sail in the “Tune Up” races organised by the Club Naval de Cascais. Conditions could not have been better, as a spanking 16 knot northwesterly obliged.

Two races were sailed with teams testing gear & techniques. It was great to see the Australians revelling in the conditions which will be prevalent in Perth at the next World Championships in 2019.

After Lawrie showed the way in race 1, it was Provezza TUR 1212 who performed best in race 2.[Recently it has been rumoured that this team considered adding crew members after a brief stop in the ferry port of Caen, whereby 6 non invited personnel were found aboard]…..

Fortunately, chief measurer Gunter Ahlers, spotted the aforementioned stowaways whilst inspecting Provezza with his “Memory Stick”….

Superb conditions are expected, as more teams join the fray….

Now we’re off to the Irish to smash down a couple of quick pints & be in bed 10!

Higher, Faster, Longer….. Stavros.

P.S. .. Thanks to the marvelous Ron Rosenberg for these great on-the-water photos today… who is so happy to be “home” in Cascais. .. 🙂
