Whilst a number of Dragon’s are now on their way to Melbourne, packed in 40 foot containers braving the elements of the Southern Ocean and of like, many of us “lucky” sailors have events to look forward to over the next two weekends, here in Europe. First we have the Coupe de L’Armistice in Cannes which begins on Friday 12th Nov, for 3 days, where I’m sure Club President Jean Pierre Gailes is expecting around 50 boats to battle it out for this penultimate French event of 2010. This very popular regatta is always well attended. It gives the local sailor’s a chance to show off Cannes’ wonderful climate, the uncrowded golden beaches in direct contrast to some early winter snow just beginning to settle on the very tops of the nearby mountains….. Those sailors who are not sending their boats to Australia and others that have the luxury of owning “2” boats, or maybe even chartering a boat from Christian or F.G. will be looking forward to some excellent racing, with sun, blue waters and hopefully clear blue skies……. More to follow……….
Then the following weekend down in Cascais, Portugal, the Yacht Club Naval will host it’s 2nd Winter Series regatta over the 19th to 21st Nov. Bruno, the club representative expects between 25 – 30 boats will gather on the rolling Atlantic waves, to race amongst the Dolphin’s off the shores of Estoril and Cascais…. This ever growing popular winter Dragon base, will once again be able to show off it’s fantastic recently built Club House and Marina facilities. I am lucky to be sailing in both events, so will keep you up to date with whats occurring………….. Apparently, there are still a few charter boats available in Portugal, for this particular weekend… contact me for details…
