Its a glorious morning here in Abersoch and the 43 teams competing in the 2011 Dragon Edinburgh Cup supported by Aberdeen Asset Management are heading out to the race area ready for an 11am start. We have two races scheduled for today and we all have our fingers crossed that the current light breeze holds up. The forecast is for light airs and looking at the boats sailing down to the course its certainly very light and they are only just making headway.
Although the calibre of the competition is exceptionally high and many of the top international crews are here, this regatta has a wonderful traditional feel to it. The boats are kept on moorings in front of the club house with the crews coming and going by club launch and RIB. South Caernarvonshire Yacht Club is in a delightful position clinging to the cliffs with 180 degree views across the entire bay and race course. The SCYC team have made the Dragon sailors fantastically welcome and no matter what the query someone is ready with a solution and a helping hand.
The social programme is the perfect mix too. Last night the crews enjoyed the Edinburgh opening ceremony followed by an informal supper and this evening the Dragonettes (the ladies of the Abersoch Dragon fleet) are organising a Champagne and Canape evening which is being generously hosted by SCYC member Mrs Pat Kearns in her spectacular cliff top garden. The ladies are already hard at work preparing canapes for over 300 people and figuring out how to cool all the fizz!
We’ll have news, results, photos and video for you later so please stay tuned. More info is available from www.edinburghcup.org.
