The Western Australia International Dragon Association are saddened to advise of the passing of Andrew (Andy) Johnson on Tuesday 10th March after a long illness.
Described by friends as “a true gent and stalwart of the class”, Andy was a long term (30 plus years) supporter and member of the class both as a sailor and technical representative including the following:
Owner of the timber yacht Gustel X1 (AUS55) from 1988 – 2006 & subsequent co-owner of Georgia (AUS152).
Long term member of the IDA Technical Committee.
International Measurer.
Chief Measurer for the class in Australia.
WAIDA committee member.
The Chairman and Officers of the IDA acknowledge the significant contribution Andy has made to the class over an extended period of time not just locally but internationally where he was a very active member of the IDA Technical Committee for many years and they extend condolences on behalf of the whole class to his family.
IDA TC Chairman, Klaus Diederichs, commented: “This is very sad news. Andrew was a key member of the TC and we all benefitted from his scientific insights and balanced analysis. He made a huge contribution to the committee and shall be missed deeply”.
