Despite very light airs its been an amazing day here at the Irish Dragon Championship in Cultra on Belfast Loch. The quality of the fleet is really high (just take a look at some of the crew names on the entry list and you will see what we mean) and despite some incredibly tricky conditions the racing was thrilling to watch throughout the day.
It’s been great to see a range of boats hitting the front of the fleet and although Martin Byrne and his team of Adam Winkleman and Pedro Andrade currently head the leaderboard by a comfortable margin of 12 points from Klaus Diederichs in reality the regatta is only half way through so there’s still everything to play for.
Tomorrow’s forecast is for more light winds, initially from the south but then clocking all the way round to the north by early evening which could make for another very challenging day. We’re also likely to get a fair few heavy rain showers (well this is Ireland) so we may have to get the oilies out for the first time this season.
Night night from Cultra where the Irish are proving yet again that they really do know how to host an amazing regatta (even the moon laid on a spectacular display for my walk back home tonight).
