It was all smiles today, Friday 24th (apart from Simon Fry), for TUR 1212 “Provezza Dragon” as they won the first race of the Italian National Championships in San Remo.  After a frustrating day ashore yesterday, the 36 boat fleet started the race in a North Easterly wind of around 15 knots which saw the new “V6” Petticrows open up a nice advantage from GER 1177 “Pow Wow” helmed by Pedro Andrade (in Michael Zankel’s absence).

GER 1177, crewed by Petticrows owner Tim Tavinor & Charles Nankin,  managed to hold onto 2nd place just ahead of our current World Champion, Yevgeni Braslavets helming UAE 8 “Bunker Prince” who finished 3rd.

With the wind increasing to 27-30 knots the Race Committee decided to cancel further races and sent the fleet back to San Remo Marina. Organiser Umberto Zocca di Montelupo said racing will begin again tomorrow at 10.30am in the hope to catch up with the program…
