Quoting from the original 1937 rules the intention of the Gold Cup was to “bring together as many competitors of different Nationalities as possible in a friendly spirit”. It was donated to the Dragon Class by the Clyde Yacht Clubs and has been supported most years by between 80 to 100 boats.

The Gold Cup is the one opportunity for all sailors both Professional & Corinthian to come together without “qualification” and test their skills over 6 races with no discard, to see who will lift this wonderful historical trophy..
As I had the pleasure of being in Kuhlungsborn last year I can confirm it is a great place to visit, sail and relax. With well maintained golden beaches, a super town and sea front and a fantastic sailing area, it should be a “must do” regatta on your 2015 calendar. So please take the time to send in your entry if you intend to compete…
