It was another fantastic day of sailing on the 8th and final day of races at the Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week 2013. With a building sea breeze of 15 kts, GBR 720 “Aimee” won the last race to conclude a wonderful week of sailing by Graham Bailey and team. In the other podium positions, GBR 682 helmed by Eric Williams held off a “gutsy” late challenge from GBR 660 Chris Brittain to cross the line 2nd with Chris in 3rd place, to secure the overall runners up spot. On this occasion GBR 761 Gavia Wilkinson-Cox had to settle for 3rd overall.
It was a stunning sailing day made more interesting by having to avoid the huge Container Ships and other such like vessels moving to and from Southampton Docks and of course the normal Red Jet Ferries. But this is all part of what makes Cowes Week so spectacular. A fun week was had by all.
Over in Ostend at the Belgium Nationals it seems that GBR 785 “Alfie” Tim Tavinor and BEL 80 “Blackout” Ben Van Cauwenbergh are tied on 8pts after five races. So it’s all on today’s final race…. What this space!
