GER 1113 Helmed by Tanja Jacobsohn, crewed by Bernhard Jacobsohn and Susane Bergmann, won the Coupe de Armistice in Cannes last weekend..
After two days of strong winds the 40 boat fleet were able to get some racing in “at last” on Monday 11th. As a nice steady westerly wind settled in for the day, the fleet were on the water early, in preparation for an 9.30am start.
With four races required before a discard could be implemented the fleet were keen to get going, however problems with the Committee Boat delayed the starting times, so in the end just three races were sailed. With many of the fleet carrying a Black Flag DSQ, caution and consistent sailing was the name of the game. Tanja and her team in “Goldkante Prof” certainly put together the most consistent results counting a 12th, 5th & 6th, to win with 23pts.
In 2nd place overall was SWE 372 Johan Larson sailing with his wife Catharina and Chris Winter who finished on 34pts. This was also a very pleasing result for this husband and wife team who have been loyal supporters of the Cannes Fleet for many years. Following 1pt behind in 3rd place overall, was GBR 787 David Franks who was sailing in just his second Dragon event! David who normally sails “Etchells” in Cowes & Miami was crewed by Graham Sunderland and Amy Prime, a great result, well done.
It was excellent to see so many “Ladies” up the front of the fleet, in fact with two on the 1st boat and one on each of the other podium boats, the Ladies were dominating proceedings ! Well done to you all.
A special mention must go to GBR 626 helmed by Malcom Greenwho not only finished in 4th place overall, but was one of the key helpers who drove the tractor’s which enabled all boats to launch and recover, hour after hour. It’s a thankless job, but extremely necessary, so we all thank Malcom and the other many helpers from the Yacht Club de Cannes for giving up their precious amount of time….
The next event will be a new regatta in Imperia 23rd/24th Nov, followed by Cannes on Dec 6th to 8th with the Coupe d’Hiver, a nice way to round off the year..
