Chiemsee is one of the finest inland sailing areas in Germany, “The Bavarian Sea“…. is situated in the foothills of the Alps of Chiemgau.. The Chiemsee with an area of 84qkm serves varied and challenging sailing conditions for both racing and cruising. There are two rivers (the Tiroler Achen and the Prien) that flow into the lake and the river Alz flows out. The region around Chiemsee, Chiemgau is a very famous recreational area.
Yesterday the PRO Hans Vogtsar, managed to complete two races in a light wind from predominately the west, that moved right all day until finally dying away around 5pm. The star of the day was GER 1112 Hasso Plattner, who mastered the difficult conditions to record a 3rd and a 4th, giving Hasso the overall lead. Hasso has raced many different classes over the years (mainly 505’s) and has really taken to the Dragon more recently, helped by his winter training in both Cascais and Bermuda. Well done to GER 1112.
Race 1 was won by GER 1068 Ingo Ehrlicher and race 2 by GER 1144 Jan Woortman. These two teams sailed very well to keep the remaining fleet behind them as the conditions were always changing and wind shift’s were difficult to spot as the wind came from the large island Herrenchiemsee (Gentleman’s Island), so this made sailing very tricky….
Every picture tells a story…. Spot the muppett in the snow..
Today the sun is out which is a big contrast from the snow that fell on Thursday which saw many teams putting the masts up wearing gloves and warm hats! I looked a bit out of place when I arrived in shorts and a “T” shirt from Cannes.. Hard to believe the temperature could drop 12 degree’s overnight, what was that about “Global Warming” … 🙂
