DEN 410 “Out of Bounce” and SWE 800 “Miss Behaviour” finish 1st and 2nd overall.
25 boats attended the 4th Winter Series last weekend (Feb 17th – 19th) in Puerto Portals, Mallorca enjoying some wonderful early spring sunshine, with temperatures each day around 17 degrees. It was a great way to brush off the winter blues and match up against fellow Dragons Sailors from all over Europe.
This was the 6th year Puerto Portals has hosted a Winter Series and the organisation both on and off the water was once again of the highest level. Above the Sailing School sits the delightful restaurant S’ESPONJA where sailors are invited & treated to a variety of excellent food after racing all washed down with complimentary beers. Prior to racing teams are also given packed lunches and for those that forget the club even deliver on-the-water… Huge thanks go to Marta Reynes who organises the racing and Pepe’ Vidal who runs the administration back at the Capitania in Portals. All is very much appreciated by the sailors.
Light winds with sunshine and 5 completed races at 4th Winter Series in Puerto Portals.
The weekend was won by DEN 410 helmed by Jens Christensen, crewed by Kim Andersen & Anders Bagger. Although these former “Marblehead Trophy” winners began the weekend with a 13th place, they soon got to grips with the light air conditions to record 2,2,1 & 2. In 2nd place overall was SWE 800 helmed by Jan Secher, crewed by Richard Sydenham & Gerard Mitchell. Jan’s beautiful teak decked “new” V6 Petticrows is a fantastic addition to the class, completed in Estonia after many weeks and months of superb building skills. 3rd overall was AUS 551 helmed by Jan Eckert, crewed by Tovar Mirsky and Frederico Melo. Not only did this top team win two of the races at the weekend but they also comfortably topped the leaderboard of the 29 entries overall throughout the 4 regatta’s.. Fantastic consistency over the November, December, January & February months, many congratulations to Jan, Tovar & Frederico.

Tanit has recently taken over as Secretary for the Spanish Fleet, her new energy and enthusiasm will help promote more local teams back onto the water in the coming years. The Dragon Class are always keen to encourage younger sailors to join us and we welcome Tanit in her new role.
