GER 1193 Dirk Pramann wins race 1 of Dragon Grand Prix in Kuhlungsborn, with Stefan & Stefan 🙂
The Grade 1 Grand Prix in Germany began today with 2 races sailed in a 12 knots of westerly breeze that gradually died away by the end of the day…. In race one GER 1193 helmed by Dirk Pramann, crewed by Stefan Waack & Stefan Hellriegel made the best of the left side of the course to win from SUI 311 “Sophie Racing” Hugo Stenbeck in 2nd & GER 1177 “Pow Wow” helmed by Pedro Andrade in 3rd…. I spoke with Pedro after the race, he told me “The left side was paying a little bit in the beginning so most of the fleet made their gains in that area”.. Many congratulations to Dirk & his team…
The start in Kuhlungsborn is perfectly captured by “Ace” photographer Ricardo Pinto…
In race two everybody went left, but this time the left was not so strong as the wind began to die. This allowed the boats further right to hold their breeze longer which proved to be the deciding factor. Making the most of this was our current European Champions RUS 27 “Annapurna” helmed by Anatoly Loginov, crewed by Vadim Statsenko & Alexander Shalagin, who went on to win the race. In 2nd place was RUS 76 Dmitry Samokhin & 3rd place went again to GER 1177 “Pow Wow” helmed by Pedro Andrade (In the absence of Michael Zankel)..
Race 2 winners, RUS 27 “Annapurna”, Anatoly Loginov, Vadim Statsenko & Alexander Shalagin.
Although there are only 26 Dragons at this fantastic event in Northern Germany, it is not a true reflection on the high regard Sailors have for this wonderful venue. The Segelclub Kuhlungsborn have put an enormous amount of work to organise and raise sponsorship for this regatta, which relies on the fantastic support and help of many happy volunteers. My hat goes off to the people who offer their time and effort to make this a memorable Championship….. 3 more days to go……
