Mon 2 “Jeanie” keeps a close eye on two of his main rivals, Pow Wow & Strange Little Girl.
A small but very competitive fleet of 12 Dragons are battling to win the first of the Cascais Winter Series regatta’s in Portugal. Two races were sailed today in a North Westerly Wind of around 12 kts with plenty of sunshine to keep the teams happy… In race 1 after a General Recall, 5 boats were still identified to have been over the line under the “U” Flag and so disqualified (UFD).
GER 1123 “Pow Wow” helmed by Michael Zankel won Race 1 of the first Winter Series today.
“Pow Wow” with Michael Zankel, crewed by Pedro Andrade & Phil Blinn won the first race and were 6th in race 2 so are currently 2nd overall behind MON 2 “Jeanie” helmed by Jens Rathsack, crewed by Diogo Perieira & Taigo Marcelino. Jens and his team were the most consistent on the day recording 2 & 3 and deserve to be leading. However, POR 66 “Drago” helmed by Jose’ Matoso, crewed by Olympian Gustavo Lima & Nate Campbell will have something to say about things as after being and early starter in race 1, bounced back to win race 2. Jose’ and his team will fight hard to hopefully discard their UFD by the end of the three days….
Top Russian Sailors Dmitry Samokhin, crewed by Andrey Kirilyuk & Aleksey Bushuev in RUS 76 “Strange Little Girl” will also be in the mix at the end of the weekend, as they recorded a 2 & 5 to currently stand 3rd overall. With 3 races planed for tomorrow, it’s still early days, although the 5 boats who were disqualified under the “U” flag will have to tread carefully in the remaining 5 races……
Overall Standings (after 2 races), 1st MON 2 2nd GER 1123 3rd RUS 76.
