Just a quick blog to congratulate Gordon Ingate who recently won the first grade 1 event of 2015, the Prince Phillip Cup held at the Royal Brighton Yacht Club, Melbourne. This trophy was presented by HRH Prince Philip just as the Edinburgh Cup was for the British National Championships. The Prince Philip Cup is awarded to the winner of the Australasian Championship as it also includes New Zealand. Gordon who represented Australia at the Olympics back in 1972, Munich, in the Tempest Class was crewed by Olympic Star sailor David Giles and multi-class National Champion Brad Sheridan…..
Rob Campbell helming “Indulgence” AUS 218 holds a comfortable lead in Melbourne.
Runner up this year and just 1 point behind Gordon and his team was Robert Campbell from the UK, helming Robert Alpe’s Petticrows “Indulgence” AUS 218 also crewed by Richard Franklin. Rob and his team won the “warm up” event, the Ted Albert Memorial Regatta, held prior to the main Championship, so the “Indulgence” team were always going to be a strong contender.. 3rd Overall was AUS 213 Wolf Breit in “Shapes”..
Although this event took place 3 weeks ago, it is a great inspiration for us all that Gordon is out there sailing at the very top level at the age of 88! Many congratulations my friend, long may it continue………
