Dmitry Bondarenko GBR 408 leads in Race 1 of the Dutch Nationals.
The Royal Netherlands Yacht Club, is a Dutch Yacht Club and Rowing Club based in Muiden. It has two marina’s in Muiden and Enkhuizen. The organisation was founded in 1847 and is the oldest “remaining” water sports club in the Netherlands…
From the moment visiting Dragon Sailors arrive at the club, you are welcomed with a cool beer & bitterballs, a friendly handshake and made to feel at home in this peaceful and well located venue.
Another clear line start at the Open Dutch Nationals, in Muiden.
At this Championship we have 30 boats competing from 7 Nations which include Belgium, Great Britain, Russia, Germany, United Arab Emirates, Sweden and of course Holland. Over the first two days we have sailed 5 races in sunshine and winds ranging from 6 to 12 kts. Leading the field at the moment is Pieter Heerema helming NED 412 who sailing a near faultless regatta scoring 2, 1, 1, 1 & 1…. close behind at this stage is Dmitry Bondarenko in another beautifully restored Pedersen & Thuesen and Martin Payne in his 1992 Petticrows.
Pieter Heerema NED 412 takes control in race 2 with GBR 585 & NED 345 in pursuit.
The Race Officer and his experienced team have set square lines and sensible course length to suit the ever changing conditions. In all 5 races there have been no recalls and minimal UFD’s which reflect excellent race management and a few over excited helms :-).
Blue Skies and warm sunshine have blessed the sailors in Muiden this week.
Today (Saturday) we have sunshine but very little wind, so the Race Committee sensibly called racing off at 12.30 as there is a perfect forecast for tomorrow which will see the final two races completed.
Results after 5 completed races with 1 discard.. 2 more races to go.
Tonight we have the regatta “Dinner” which will be attended by all and see a few sore heads in the morning as traditional Dutch hospitality usually leads to good food and copious amounts of alcohol consumption…. 🙂
