Patrick de Barros POR 64 leads overall after 4 races at the Princess Sofia in Palma de Mallorca.
After the rains & light winds of yesterday there were 3 nice & sunny races in Palma today (Sat 24th) with POR 64 “Lady Tati” scoring 1st, 2nd, 1st to lead overall. Patrick de Barros, (crewed by Alvaro Marinho & Rodrigo Vantacich), is participating in his 38th Princess Sophia… quite a record I’m sure :-). Close behind Patrick are ESP 71 Javier Scherk & DEN 266 Frank Berg, so its all on tomorrow….
The Dragons are returning to Palma de Mallorca for the 48th Princess Sophia Trophy.
Meanwhile over in San Remo.
Conditions were again tough with strong winds & major wind shifts at Italian Championships.
After a General Recall at the start of Race 2 of the Italian Championships the “U” Flag was used for the re-start, which saw two of yesterday’s leaders over the line at the Pin End! Yes, both TUR 1212 & GER 1177 were both UFD.
GER 1068 “Dottore Amore” helmed by Ingo Ehrlicher, crewed by Thomas (the Tank) Auracher & former World Champion Malte Philipp took full advantage to record a 1st and a 2nd in the two races. This top team now hold a comfortable overall lead on just 7 points, from UAE 8 helmed by our “Current” World Champion Yevgeni Braslavets, crewed by Deigo Negri & Eugeni Kushienko in 2nd (12pts) and FRA 391 Jean Breger, with Gaetan Aunette & Christian Gout in 3rd (19pts).
Event organiser Umberto Zocca Di Montelupo told me “Tomorrow we will finish with 2 more Races which will allow for a Discard”. He continued, “Tonight there will be a Lottery Prize of a Pyramid of Wine! Yes 100 bottles of different Italian Wine from Sicily, Tuscany & Piedmont”… Pity I am not there! 🙂
