canopaySailing today got underway for the small but competitive 20 boat fleet in Deauville with two excellent races in an every changing Southerly wind of around 12 to 14 kts. The sailors were then treated to a champagne reception (with superb Petit Fours) at the Yacht Club Deauville, before the premises move next year.  Already there is evidence of foundations being laid 100m along the seafront nearer to the vast gates/locks that keep the water in this quiet but very popular French town that is twinned with Cowes on the Isle of Wight. The new clubhouse will be perfectly situated with excellent views and a Marina that can accommodate all.

Out on the race course it was a great battle for the overall lead of this 8 race series with GBR 771 Finito’ just edging the day with a 3rd and a 1st from ITA 62 Fetch the Dragon 1st and 3rd and GBR 633 Fei lin’s Flirtation with two 2nd’s. So all three boats are on 4 points.

Tomorrow the forecast is for stronger winds and with the gates due to open at 11.57 the fleet is guaranteed to get another great day of sailing. Next year Deauville will hold this event at the end of June giving travellers a chance to compete in the French “Hat Trick”. La Rochelle, La Baule and Deauville, a nice little package of sailing and après-activities.

Higher, Faster, Longer………………………   Stavros,  (GBR 771).
