There was perfect weather conditions in La Grand Motte for the 4th Coupe des Pyramides sailed in 25 degrees and clear blue skies in this beautiful western corner of the Mediterranean. 18 teams from 6 Nations battled hard for the right to lift the Pyramide’s Trophy in the venue that could be the French nomination for the 2017 Gold Cup….
5 races were run over the three days in light to medium winds which saw the Club’s Secretary FRA 391 Jean Breger take an early lead after day one with back to back victories…. Closely followed by legendary “Baboo” Pasturaud helming FRA 378 “Green” and RUS 27 Anatoly Loginov settling for 3rd place.
On shore the teams sampled two fantastic social evenings where local wines and an abundance of traditional oysters and regional delicacies were served and very much enjoyed by all. A real party atmosphere with fun & laughter.
Three more races were completed over the next two days in which both Stephane Baseden FRA 402 and Ron James GBR 633 were to show their speed and sound tactics to finish 2nd & 3rd respectively overall. But it was the skill and experience of the RUS 27 team that eventually took the title.
The event was sponsored by Banque Depuy de Perseval as well as the Municipality and Harbour authority who reiterated their support and commitment for hosting the Gold Cup in 2017.. A venue to try next year, so put it in your diaries for 2015….Many congratulations to Anatoly and his team and also to La Grand Motte Yacht Club for such a fantastic event….
