The City Mayor congratulates the winners of “Scarlett” FRA 347 Tonguy, Babou & Gilles..
Jean Gabriel Pasturaud helmed “Scarlett” (owned by Gilles La Doare, from Douarnenez), to first place in the final race of a 9 race series to take the overall Drag’s Cup Championship of 2013.
It was a most exciting series run by the very experienced PRO Yves Leglise, over a 3 day period as the first day was lost (no wind), who managed to complete 9 races allowing for 2 discards for this competitive 27 boat fleet.
Jean Gabriel Pasturaud (Babou), who was crewed by Professional tactician Tanguy Ravach and Gilles La Doare, did not have it all their own way as they were pushed until the very end by Fred Gourlaouen FRA 207 from Douarnenez and new comer to the class Phillippe Presti helming FRA 405.
All of us know Fred (the Sailmaker) from DZ, who is often seen at the top end of the fleet helming his “old” but very competitive boat “Q Ti TOO”, crewed on this occasion by Alexandre Minos and Jean-Marie Dauris. But not many Dragon sailors will know Phillippe Presi. However, I can tell you now Phillippe is one of France’s very top sailors. He has just returned from playing a very important role as coach of the winning America’s Cup Team ORACLE and has now completed no less than 3 America’s Cup Campagnes. Phillippe has also raced Star’s, Soling’s and Finn’s at the very top level, dating back to the early 1990’s where he won two Finn Gold Cup’s in 1996 and 1993. So another great sailor joins our wonderful Dragon Class.
On this occasion Phillippe (crewed by Dominique Herbrard and Gilles Marchand) had to settle for 2nd place overall, whilst Fred Gourlaouen finished a very deserved 3rd. With just 3pts separating these 3 top teams it once again shows that every point is so important, in 4th place was FRA 396 Remy Arnaud and in 5th place was GBR 784 Tim Tavinor…
In closing Yves Leglise reminded everyone that the dates of next years’ (2014) French Championship in Cazaux, will now be August 22nd to 26th. (Not in July as originally shown). So well done once again to “Babou”, a great sailor, a great champion and above all a very nice Man…….
Higher, Faster, Longer………….. Stavros.
