SUI 311 “Sophie III” won the Grade 1 Grand Prix Guyader in style this week after winning 2 of the 4 completed races in the beautiful bay of Douarnenez.
Although 2 full days were lost due to lack of wind, the 46 Internationals Teams had another 2 Championship Races yesterday to round off this IDA Grade 1 event. With a substantial lead after day 1, Hugo Stenbeck and his top crew won race 3 yesterday which really stamped their superiority on the fleet.
DEN 411 “African Queen” win race 4 yesterday in Douarnenez, with great downwind speed.
Race 4 of the series was won by the top “Corinthian” team from Denmark sailing DEN 411 “African Queen” helmed by Jorgen Schoenherr, crewed by Christian Videbaek and Thomas Schmidt. This was the first regatta for quite some time for Jorgen and it showed that time off has not slowed him down at all 🙂 Not only did they win the “Corinthian Prize”, but Jorgen also finished 4th overall in the final rankings. Great sailing guys…..
Winners of Race 4, Top Corinthian Team accepting the Beppe Ducas Trophy & 4th Overall was DEN 411 “African Queen”.
Runners up overall were the team from Germany helmed by Stephen Link, crewed by Frank Butzmann & Michi Lip in GER 1162 “Desert Holly”. Counting a 5th, 1st, 3rd & 16th this put Stephen and his team in a comfortable 2nd.

The final “Podium” position went to the ever consistent team from Russia sailing “Strange Little Girl”, Dmitry Samokhin, Andrey Kirilyuk and Aleskey Bushuev. This crew have spent their winter improving their skills in Cascais and always seem to be in the right place at the right time… Congratulations once again Dmitry, Andrey and the “Biggest Man in Russia” 🙂

So once again another Grade 1 event is over and the Douarnenez “Legacy” of the “Great” Louis Urvois lives on. All 46 boats paid their homage to Louis by placing roses in the water as they sailed passed his home for many years on the wonderful coast of Douarnenez .
Also the Societe’ des Regates of Douarnenez provide 2 Dragons for young & new sailors who wish to experience sailing in our fantastic class in a perfect setting……..

Team “Sophie Racing” Win in Douarnenez…
