Princess Anne will be at the Royal Yacht Squadron today as the Britannia Cup is up for grabs amongst the “Bigger Boats” this Tuesday of Cowes Week. The Princess Royal’s connection with the Dragon Class has already been mentioned by Fiona’s recent press release stating that she will be the Patron of the Gazprom World Championships in Weymouth, during September.
Princess Anne’s father, the Duke of Edinburgh, was presented with the famous K192 “Bluebottle” Dragon by the members of the Island Sailing Club (here in Cowes), on his wedding to our Queen. Then in 1949 HRH presented the Edinburgh Cup which is now the trophy for the UK National Champion.
On the Dragon racing front, GBR 720 “Aimee” helmed by Graham Bailey, continues to dominate the fleet, with 3 wins out of 3. In second place is GBR 761 Gavia Wilkinson-Cox and 3rd is local hero, GBR 682 Eric Williams.
Today the breeze has died away and the loud R.Y.S. Cannon’s have already sounded off the A.P. it could be a long wait for the sea breeze to fill in….
