15 Teams took part in the 3rd Puerto Portals Winter Series in which 6 races were completed from 15th-17th December. Meanwhile, 13 teams enjoyed sunny weather and light wind conditions in San Remo over the same weekend proving that the Dragon Class is very much “alive & kicking” during these winter months. With 22 boats registered in Cannes, 12 boats down in Vilamoura and a further 7 boats over in Port Camargue it means almost 70 Dragons are participating around the Mediterranean this winter.

Some people may ask “Why have so many different Winter Series”? Well, the answer is quite simple, Dragon Sailors enjoy going to a variety of venues, for many different reasons. What it does show is that the Dragon Class is extremely active and a huge thanks is owed to all the Yacht Club’s who continue to support our wonderful Dragon Class.Potrebbe essere un'immagine raffigurante 2 persone, persone che fanno gare di barche, vela e barca a vela

San Remo Winter series with 13 teams enjoying light winds and sunshine 15th – 18th Dec.

As we look ahead to 2024 all 5 winter series regatta’s will continue up until April. Our International Dragon Calendar is full of exciting events with another top quality Grade 1 circuit organised to attract as many teams as possible. We start in Riva del Garda (May) then up to Travemunde (July), over to Dublin (August) then finishing in the beautiful Imperia (October) with the addition of the Finals. We are extremely grateful to our main Grade 1 sponsor “Yanmar” for their continued support.

Undoubtably the 2 highlights of the 2024 season will be the Europeans in Parnu, Estonia (August 4th-9th) followed by the Gold Cup in Kinsale, Ireland (September 7th-13th). These prestigious regatta’s will give the class a chance to shine a light on how popular the Dragon’s are as we continued to rebuild in numbers after the covid years. Please try to attend at least one of these top events….

In closing we must also support our local fleets and try to attend as many annual regatta’s that have proven so popular over the years. Let’s encourage new sailors into the class and remind the more mature and seasoned sailors that you are never too old to sail a Dragon 🙂 as we look to increase numbers at all events. Wishing you all a very Happy Xmas & New Year!
