Thomas & Nichola Wilton with helm Tim Tavinor winners of race 2 & race 4 lead overall..
Everyone needs a “Tigger” in their tank if they want to go fast… and that has certainly been the case here in Cascais as the overall leaders after 5 races are Tim Tavinor (Owner of Peticrows), Thomas Wilton (IDA Secretary) and his wife Nichola sailing GBR 784 “Tigger”. Discarding a 6th place, Tim and his team have 7pts, ahead of Pieter Heerema and Alvaro Marinho both on 10pts.
It has been an exciting regatta so far for this small but very strong fleet of 16 dragons, as the competitors of this 2nd Grade 1 event of the year enjoy constant sunshine and steady winds off the shoreline of Estoril. Race 1 was won by the current European Champion POR 66 Jose’ Matoso, crewed by Gustavo Lima and Frederico Melo, whilst race 3 was won by Martin Payne GBR 786, crewed by Shawn Kingston and Dave Dwyer. The Tigger team took race 2 & 4 before Netherlands top helmsmanPieter Heerema, crewed by Theis Palm and Kasper Harsberg won the 5th race at the close of play yesterday.
So the stage is set for a wonderful final day of racing, for this prestigious and “Huge” cup, the Juan Carlos Trophy. With a forecast of around 16-19 kts of breeze and the possibility of 3 more races the whole event is still up for grabs. So can the “Tigger” keep his “Tail” ahead of the chasing pack….. ?? Let’s wait and see…..
