1st Overall AUS 551 Helmed by Jan Eckert, crewed by Torvar Mirsky & Frederico Melo.

21 teams enjoyed three competitive days of racing in Puerto Portals to conclude their winter regatta’s in the VI edition of the Copa del Mediterraneo 16th to 19th March. This year the regatta was won by Jan Eckert and his team on board AUS 551 who continued their winter series success with yet another overall victory.

Owner and former World “Match Race” Champion Torvar Mirsky has certainly found form in the International Dragon Class since buying his Petticrows V6.1 in 2002. With Jan Eckert helming and top Portuguese crew Frederico Melo, there has been no stopping this team in recent months.

6 races were completed over the 3 days and despite “Yeah Nah” dominating the regatta they did not have it all their own way as Werner Deuring helming AUT 207 “Basic Logic” won both race 1 and race 6 to finish just 3pts behind the leaders in 2nd place.

2nd overall AUT 207 “Basic Logic” Werner Deuring, Michael Seifarth & Pedro Andrade.

In 3rd place overall and top Lady Helm for another series was Nicola Friesen crewed by Michi Lip & Kilian Weise. Since winning the 3rd Grade 1 last year in Port Camargue Nicola has continued to helm GER 1207 “Khaleesi” to many race wins. Indeed this experienced team won race 4 and put in some consistent races to fully justify their podium finish in this competitive fleet. Many congratulations to the top 3 teams.

The top Corinthian Team was SWE 401 “Nono” helmed by our IDA Treasurer Martin Palsson, crewed by Thomas Wallenfeldt & Gustav Gardeback. Martin and his Swedish team always perform at the highest level and continue to push the professional teams all the way.

This has been a very good Winter for the Puerto Portals Organisers and Race Management Team. With the highest number of participants of 30 boats at any winter venue, the Marina staff, helpers and volunteers continue to deliver racing of the highest quality.  Puerto Portals is firmly established on the International Dragon Circuit and have already posted their dates for the next winter series & Copa del Mediterraneo.

Huge thanks go to Marta Reynes and her on-the-water team, to Pepe’ Vidal in administration and to the Port Captain Alvaro Irala and all the Ladies in the Capitaneri for providing such excellent service.
